YKnot, a 2010 Hanse 430 owned and skippered by Rob Rainsford, has been one of the boats I’ve sailed on most regularly. Based out of Safety Beach Sailing Club, I’ve joined her for club racing, offshore deliveries, and major coastal regattas, covering extensive miles along the Australian coast.
Over the past couple of years, I’ve taken part in Airlie Beach Race Week 2025, Magnetic Island Race Week 2025, and the Melbourne to Devonport ORCV race, as well as long offshore deliveries from Devonport to Melbourne, Westernport Bay to Mooloolaba, and Magnetic Island to Mackay — totaling well over 1,500 nautical miles of passage-making. On these trips, I’ve been involved in all aspects of sailing: trimming, helming, and working as bow during multiple sail changes, particularly managing her code 0, symmetrical and asymmetrical spinnakers on long legs around islands and shifting coastal conditions.
