The IY60 Indigo is a distinctive 60-foot offshore sailing yacht launched in May 2004 and built by Brent Gray Projects in South Africa. Designed by Simonis-Voogd Yachts, the IY60 combines thoughtful performance engineering with robust construction for serious offshore sailing.
Indigo’s hull is a light displacement, moderate beam design that supports both stability and speed, paired with a high-aspect carbon rudder and an inverted T-profile keel that enhances directional control and upwind performance. The composite hull and deck use unidirectional E-glass with Airex/Herex PVC foam core and epoxy resin for strength and durability, with reinforced high-impact areas for offshore resilience.
Measuring 18.28 m (60 ft) overall, with a beam of 4.80 m and a draft of 3.20 m, Indigo also carries substantial ballast to balance performance with seaworthiness. The yacht was built to comply with CE Category A standards for ocean sailing, featuring watertight bulkheads, a composite keel fin with a lead bulb, carbon fibre rudder gear and a robust systems layout that supports true offshore capability.
Indigo’s engineering extends below decks, with an efficient electrical and navigation suite, and practical tankage — including roughly 880 L of fuel and 600 L of fresh water — making her well suited for extended passages without frequent stops.
Overall, the IY60 Indigo represents a well-rounded offshore yacht: a composite-built, performance-oriented design with enough structure and systems to handle serious ocean work while remaining versatile enough for cruising and longer coastal journeys.
